As I may have mentioned, Mark Wahlberg, who has always been pretty jacked, looked like someone stuck an airhose in his mouth and blew his muscles up like tires in the first trailer for Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain which also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – who pretty much always looks that way – and Anthony Mackie. (Wahlberg certainly didn’t look like this in Broken City. Mackie looks a lot more jacked than usual too. They really went “Method” for this movie.)
Pain & Gain is based on a true story and has been described as a low budget (by Michael Bay standards – he said he wanted to make a small inexpensive film as a change of pace) thriller. IMDB is calling it a comedy/drama. The trailer seems to emphasize the comedy as does this first tv spot. (It could use more Rebel Wilson though):
From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain & Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. The movie is based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.
The film also stars Tony Shalhoub, Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, Rob Corddry, Ken Jeong, Michael Rispoli and Tony Plana. The flick will be released in the US on April 26 and 3rd May in the UK.
