Nana Meriwether, who became Miss USA in 2012, is going online to find dates.
The South African-born Meriwether has been using the dating app Tinder since April because she finds it hard dating men in New York City.
“It’s funny, the guys I’ve said 'yes' to have all been like, 'Are you real?’” Meriwether told New York Magazine. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course.’ Even pageant-title-holders get lonely.”
“Here’s the thing about dating in New York, it doesn’t exist. There’s so much going on in the city, there are so many distractions, that people just forget to go on a second date.”
Meriwether’s dating profile includes a photo of herself in a bikini with her pageant sash.
“Mostly, I joined because a friend told me to, but I think it could be a great way to meet people, especially in New York City,” said the 28 year old.
“I think when you’re single, you should try all avenues. And now there are so many new apps for dating, this one is just really fun.”
Meriwether has not yet been on a real date with any guys from Tinder, saying she prefers matchmaking through friends, which hasn't worked so far.
Instead of dating, Meriwether says she mostly uses Tinder with her girlfriends to judge the looks of the men on the app.
“I usually do it with girlfriends. I don’t usually do it alone in my room,” said Meriwether, who surrendered her title just a few weeks ago to a new Miss USA.
