Who ever thought the self-proclaimed diva, Mariah Carey, would ever be criticized for ‘being too nice?’
Carey, who is earning the big bucks for her role as a judge on American Idol, revealed the truth about what the producers really think of her on last night’s show. After contestant Lazaro Arbos performed ‘Close to You’ by The Carpenters from the Bacharach-David songbook, the judges were less than impressed with his singing. Comments ranged from ‘horrible’ to that song could be your last song.
When it was Mariah’s turn to judge Lazaro, she began by revealing she has been spoken to by the producers because she is ‘too nice’ to the contestants and she needs to criticize them. Based on Carey’s rambling, it was very clear she was uncomfortable being critical. She started with ‘we love you as a person,’ and continued on and on, not making much sense at all, trying to explain what was wrong with the song. Thankfully, her co-judge, Keith Urban was able to summarize what Mariah was trying to say in a clear and concise manner.
We have to ask, is Mariah Carey too nice as an American Idol judge? Do you think the producers will keep her on for next year? Or will she even want to stay. It’s clear she is not comfortable in her role as a judge. Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
