Justin Bieber Charged With Assault in Canada

| by Michael Allen

Pop singer Justin Bieber was arrested in Perth County, Ontario, Canada, after allegedly crashing his ATV into a minivan, which was driven by a paparazzi photographer, last Friday.

According to TMZ, Bieber was charged with dangerous driving and assault, which allegedly happened after the crash.

Bieber was photographed with on-again, off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez riding an ATV near his dad's home on Friday, but it's not clear if the person who took that picture was involved in the crash.

"[The] investigation revealed that after colliding, the driver of the ATV and an occupant of the minivan engaged in a physical altercation," Ontario Provincial Police spokesman Kees Wijnands told CNN.

However, Bieber's lawyer claims that he was enjoying a "peaceful retreat" at his father's home when the paparazzi chased him.

The singer is currently serving a two-year probation sentence in the U.S. for egging a neighbor's home in Los Angeles.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles prosecutor's officer told CNN that a judge would have to decide if this Canadian incident violates Bieber's probation.

TMZ reports the paparazzi photographer has retained celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, who contacted the LAPD.

Bieber is also facing another assault charge in Toronto, and must appear at a hearing on Sept. 29.

CNN notes that Bieber donated $50,000 to a youth charity in Miami in order to settle a drunk driving case from January (mug shot above).

Bieber was also accused (but not arrested) of vandalism in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in Nov. 2013. He was caught by photographers spray painting a wall while his bodyguards stood by. Bieber reportedly gave the finger and shouted, "Suck my d---" at photographers.
