You may want to sit down for this one ‘Girls’ fanatics. Looks like Christopher Abbott, who plays Charlie on the very popular HBO drama, Girls, is leaving the show because of creative differences with series creator, Lena Dunham.

Abbott played the boyfriend of Marnie, played by Alison Williams, is said to have been iffy about being on the show anyway. A source states:

“He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”

Another source states:

“He’s sure the show will continue to do well, but as far as his character, he wasn’t behind where it was going to end up. Chris was reluctant to do the show from the get go. He’s a really great actor, the source material from the beginning was great and he was grateful to Lena. But he’s at a point now where he has too many great film parts being offered to him to turn them down for something he’s not 100 percent satisfied with. He feels good about his decision.”

Abbott’s representative confirmed the news of his exiting:

“[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”

It will be interesting where Dunham decides to take the show now that Abbott has left and how she will explain his departure not only on the show, but when she is asked about this situation.

What do you think of Abbott’s departure? Are you a fan of ‘Girls?’
