Fans of comedian Andy Kaufman claim that the former "Taxi" star is alive and living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reported KRQE-TV.

For decades there has been an urban legend that Kaufman faked his own cancer death on May 16, 1984.

However, his death certificate says that he died in Los Angeles at Cedars Sinai Hospital.

“He told people he was going to fake his death before it happened, years before,” writer Jack Bristow told HuffingtonPost.com. This was also stated by Kaufman's best friend Bob Zmuda in the Village Voice in 1999.

The story that circulated among fans claims that Kaufman's long-lost son Stephen Maddox had been trying to track down his dad and eventually found him in Albuquerque, New Mexico two years ago.

“He was having surgery, supposedly, and he finally guilted him into seeing him once, that's how the story goes,” said Bristow.

Maddox was supposedly rejected by Kaufman and took his revenge by posting videos of his dad online.

“I don't know if it's him or not. But that one black and white one where it shows his face, it looks like it could possibly be him,” Bristow added.
