Lakers: Caracter and Ebanks Will See D-League Time

| by

The Los Angeles Lakers two second-round picks Derrick Caracter and Devin Ebanks have done their best in limited minutes this season. Caracter has averaged less minutes per game than Ebanks but has played in three more games, mostly due to center Andrew Bynum being out with injury.

In his limited role, Caracter has posted two games of six points and recently played 17 minutes in a win against the Portland Trail Blazers. Ebanks, on the other hand, has had two games with four points but hasn’t played in the teams last two games.

It is unclear when, but both players may find themselves on the Bakersfield Jam roster at some point this season, according to according to Janis Carr of the Orange County Register.

Phil Jackson said Sunday that he would like to see Ebanks and Caracter get more experience in the Developemental League this season, a real possibility when Andrew Bynum returns.

“I expect to move them aound a lot, but not until Andrew comes in,” Jackson said. “We’ll have to have that full roster right now.”

It would be a big blow to both players to be sent down to the D-League, especially Caracter who has worked so hard to combat weight issues and other character issues from his past. But it’s the nature of the business and although it’s not ideal, being sent to the D-League would allow both players to work on their game and hopefully be better suited to contribute to the Lakers later on this season.
