Bush Held His Office with Dignity and Courage

As the sun sets on the Bush presidency, it is important to honor the man who answered the call to public service, provided us leadership in a time of great consequence, and held his office with great dignity and courage. The Heritage Foundation would sometimes disagree with President Bush on policy but never on our love for our nation. The President strove for innovative solutions to America’s dilemmas, just as we do, and looked across this nation, and saw that the answers to most of its problems were in the hearts of great Americans, and not the heart of the national government.

President Bush spoke at the Heritage Foundation on November 1, 2007, and he said “The lessons of the past have taught us that liberty is transformative. And I believe 50 years from now an American President will be speaking to Heritage and say, thank God that generation that wrote the first chapter in the 21st century understood the power of freedom to bring the peace we want.”

This President put a large stake in the freedom and liberty of others, and will ultimately be judged at the lofty level of how many people were granted these eternal rights, and how many people seized the opportunities he afforded them.

Today, we simply wish President Bush and Laura all the blessings they deserve in the next chapter of their life. For now, the homeland is secure, the American people are inspired and the greatness of our country is once again on display to the world. Thank you.

Ex-President Bush did more to destroy the values and integrity of our nation than any other president in the last 50 years!

While I too wish him and his family well in the future I cannot see the point to sugar-coating the reality of his failures to recognize nor preserve the great features of our country. You cannot honestly say you respect freedom, liberty and human dignity when you so consistently deny it to others as Mr. Bush did. Saying you don't torture fellow humans by trying to redefine generations of agreement as to what torture is is hardly a legacy to be proud of. Doing more to interject government into the lives of US citizens and those of other places, especially Iraq, a country we preemptively and dishonestly invaded in violation of centuries of development of sovereignty is a shameful record at best.

For the Heritage Foundation to deny its own principles for sake of a funeral is understandable but in the guise of an opinion piece is deplorable pandering.

I do not understand whether the title of your comment is a supportive or a repulsive one.
Fidel Castro held office "with dignity and courage" too. And Hugo Chavez the same...Groucho Marx left every fiasco with the same "dignity and courage".
Please provide just one example where Mr Bush administration actions result in an improvement with respect to previous situation.

I'm still waiting you say "acting" (like in the old Saturday Night Live sketch) in any moment...
...and by the way, please check tv news more often, ok?
