Everyone’s favorite gun-toting wide receiver, Plaxico Burress, is due to be released from prison soon. And it’s actually sooner than you might think. A person who visited Burress in prison recently told the New York Post that he’s due to be released in “two or three weeks,” because of good behavior.
Burress would be released under a work release program, but it’s not known when he will be reinstated by the NFL. Based on how nice Roger Goodell was to Michael Vick, we’re sure that Burress would be ready for the 2010 season minus a few games.
“He says his body feels great and is free of pain for the first time in years,” said the source. “He’s in good shape and he has handled everything well.”
New York Giants GM Jerry Reese surprisingly said that he’d think about possibly adding Burress back to the roster. Earlier this week, he said “we’ll definitely investigate it.”
It’s not so surprising that they would bring back a convict. It’s just that they don’t really need more wide receivers. If they did indeed bring Plax back, we’d have to think that that would be an indictment of Ramses Barden. If the 6′ 6″ Barden had shown that he could play, there wouldn’t really be a need for Burress.
But, football aside, this is a heads up for New York City club goers. In the next 2-3 weeks, you should probably start being more careful where you go. Then again, if some team out west picks him up, you have nothing to worry about.
