Bruce Springsteen Supports Gay Marriage in New Jersey

| by DeepDiveAdmin

Any Bruce Springsteen fan knows the superstar singer is a huge supporter of New Jersey. Now it turns out he is also a supporter of gay marriage in his home state.

A same-sex marriage bill is up for a vote in the state Senate on Thursday. It's expected to be close -- even Senate Democrats admit they might not be able to muster the 21 votes needed to pass it onto the Assembly, where it is almost certain to pass.

So Springsteen has added his considerable voice to the debate, posting on his website:

Like many of you who live in New Jersey, I've been following the progress of the marriage-equality legislation currently being considered in Trenton. I've long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, "The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is -- a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law." I couldn't agree more with that statement and urge those who support equal treatment for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to let their voices be heard now.

This is likely the last chance for a gay marriage law in New Jersey. Corzine lost re-election, and will leave office next month. Governor-elect Chris Christie, while a big Springsteen fan, is no fan of gay marriage. He promises to veto any same-sex marriage bill that reaches his desk.
