Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff will not attend his son's funeral. 46-year-old Mark Madoff hanged himself in his New York City apartment on Saturday.
Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence at a prison in North Carolina. There was speculation that he would ask for permission to travel to New York for the funeral. But on Monday his lawyer said Madoff will not be there.
"Mr. Madoff will not be attending the funeral out of consideration for his daughter-in-law's and grandchildren's privacy," attorney Ira Sorkin said. "He will be conducting a private service on his own where he is presently incarcerated."
