Bengals' Cedric Benson Arrested for Assault

| by Off The Record

Remember when it seemed like ever day that Chicago Bears RB Cedric Benson was getting arrested for this or that? Well, they dropped him and since the Cincinnati Bengals picked him up, his career has been on a different path. He became their featured back and actually blossomed into quite a player. He is even in line for a new contract!

Well, sort of.

We aren’t sure how this will affect all of this, but Benson was arrested today on charges of assault with injury. This is stemming from an incident about a month ago where he punched an employee at an Annie’s West in Austin, Texas.

According to the affidavit, Benson got into a fight with another patron at the bar, when employees broke them up. He then gave a manager a healthy shove “in an attempt to continue the fight he was previously engaged in,” the affidavit said.

He then split blood from his busted lip onto a bar employee. Sounds like he was losing the fight?

Workers then asked him to leave repeatedly. “Benson refused, and was escorted out of the bar,” the affidavit said.

So yeah. Nice. Maybe Benson is still an a-hole. Not sure how this will affect his contract negotiations, but because it’s the Bengals, maybe they’ll throw a few more million into the signing bonus.
