Boy, I'm so ashamed of our Texas Republicans. Silly isn't it. Far right looking more like the're ancestors did(the ones in 1862). Please keep it up.

Yet another far right organization that has been given too much credibility.

Why does the President of the USA, susposed world leader, need to ask children at school what they can do to acheive their goals?
Why? Did the teachers not inspire their students enough? Are the natives ( meaing students for those who think Im racist) getting relestless with public schools ? When was the last time this happened and why did it happen? I think were wising up and when you realize just who the President has chosen to lead Education in this country why would that instill in me any confidence in him? I think there is much to be concerned about and anytime the school system does anything remotely political are ears should go up! Good job Family Research Council for looking out for us! We are waking up!!!

Bush I, Reagan, Clinton, Bush II...

And going back through the presidents, the last time that a president mentioned policy was Reagan (am open to correction). The rest of the presidents gave the same "feel good" speech that Obama gave today.

I wonder how the FRC felt about Reagan using the school pulpit for policy wonking. I wonder if we "woke up".

P.S. If you are not Hope7 ignore this. If you are, could you please pick a name and stick with it? I am asking politely as it would make it easier on those you intend to persuade.

It happened before and I hope that each president in the future keeps it up, be he Republican or Democrat!

It gives the students a sense of recognition, self value, and a place of true importance as in after all, they are the future of America.
To politicize it or devalue it is a foolish thing because these aren't voters and by the time that they are, they will have likely heard presidents from both persuasions of your political scale.

If they take seriously the content of the address, or if they're allowed to by the opposition and people such as yourself, they could benefit hugely as could America in the long haul.

I had "the last time this happened in quotes" as it was an answer to the previous poster. I am not in opposition to the President speaking to students, quite the contrary, I support it strongly.

The whole of my post was in refutation to the person I responded to. Sorry if I wasn't as clear as I should have been, and definitely sorry that I left the opposite impression on you.

O.k, here's a plan to all the posters on this site. Let's get together and make propaganda videos, speeches, and print. Then we will get people who don't like to think for themselves to send us money . Then we can build an army with these people.

Along the way of course we will take polls from our phone lists that will give us a 95% favorable response (I can't believe he quoted that number) and spout them to the non-thinking friends of people who don't like to think for themselves. Yeah sure, we will face a tiny bit of opposition, but we can ignore them since they aren't "real 'mericans" and their opinion doesn't count.

One of our most effective tools would be to get a major network behind us, and then they can promote our agenda. We can even have some tea parties or something. That will get the masses riled up. Of course they won't really know what they are protesting, and that's the way we like it. Keep them confused and shouting, and sending us money. This is a no fail plan really.

Needless to say, there are steps I didn't list, and tactics I didn't mention (oh hell, don't let me forget the radio demagogues), but we can discuss them at our first meeting.

So who's in?

The answer to your question, then: yes, in the absence of any actual reason President Obama shouldn't address schoolchildren, it is appropriate.

This is to what he really said. So go in quote where these comments came from and we'll discuss it. Until then don't make propaganda videos.
