Avatar Passes Titanic's Overseas Record

It's official. James Cameron's action-adventure epic Avatar is now the biggest-grossing offshore title in history. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the blockbuster reached a cumulative $1.288 billion internationally over the weekend, exceeding Titanic's 13-year international box office record of $1.242 billion.

The official tally for Avatar's weekend success is $107 million grossed from 11,800 screens in 111 markets. This is the sixth consecutive weekend that Avatar has brought in more than $100 million internationally, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The greatest numbers have come from France ($123.3 million), followed by Germany ($95.7 million) and the United Kingdom ($92.9 million). The film has also proven hugely successful in South Korea, Japan and Australia, and has become the top-grossing film of all time in China.
