Autism Advocates More Concerned with Anti-Vaccine Quackery

To many of us who have been following the online ‘careers’ of the
various people and factions behind Age of ‘Autism’ for many years (at
least 7 in my case) this will be no surprise but it still needs
pointing out once more:

The Age of ‘Autism’ blog is a repository of and a flag waver for anti-vaccine quackery.

Easy to say and growing easier and easier to demonstrate every day. As of the time of publishing of this post, the latest six posts from Age of ‘Autism’ have absolutely nothing to do with autism. These posts are (in reverse order):

1) Counting Offit’s Millions: More on How Merck’s Rotateq Vaccine Made Paul Offit Wealthy
2) Is One Man to Blame for the WorldWide H1N1 Panic?
3) $300K to Banyan Communications from Advisory Commission on Childhood Vaccines?
4) Harvard and CNN Report on Lower than Expected H1N1 Vaccine Uptake
5) Oops. Flu Pandemic May Be The Mildest since Modern Medicine Began Tracking.
6) Kickin’ the Tires of the Green Vaccine Initiative

All the above have no relationship to autism. All the above have a direct relationship to anti-vaccine beliefs.

One
or two stories every now and then that don’t touch on your blog’s core
subject is routine and only to be expected – but six in a row? Thats
only routine if your core subject is drifting. Or if your real core subject is slowly being revealed.

First, let's be absolutely clear about one thing here: If they stopped vaccinating all children for anything the rate of autism would definitely go down because more children would die before they could be diagnosed as being autistic . In my honest professional opinion the anti-vaccine people promote group paranoia.
I have a child who is now 28, and not autistic. She was vaccinated with vaccines that contained thimerosal. I must admit that she drools a little when she sees her favorite foods, but she is in a graduate program, is married, and is NOT autistic.
The truth of all this autism stuff is that there is NO ONE IDENTIFIABLE CAUSE OF AUTISM. Get that through your collective heads.
There are now about 22 genes that are associated with SUSCEPTIBILITY to autism. Having any one (or more) of those genes DOES NOT GUARANTEE that a person will be autistic.
I have also seen people who have other primary disorders such as urea cycle disorders, and other disorders get diagnosed as being autistic primarily because they can get more services. Once society gets on a train toward a destination, it is difficult to stop the train until it reaches a destination OR the conductor decides it is time to stop, OR the railroad operator switches tracks.

Can someone please elighten me? I don't understand why so many people are anti-vaccine. What are they against? The elimination of debilitating and fatal diseses like polio? Is it logical that the vast majority of peditricians, health departments, and schools are hurting our kids ? It makes no sense ... please explain.

There's lots to be concerned about when it comes to vaccine safety and about the risk of neurological damage from them, including the risk of autism . The use of the terms "quackery" and "anti- science " are not scientific themselves and avoid any discussion of the real science and research around vaccines , autism, and risky product lines promoted without informed consent- and even mandated without just cause.

All of the posts listed above relate to issues of corruption related to mandatory vaccination and ethical issues in vaccine research. H1N1 vaccine is of particular concern because it contains mercury, an identified neurotoxin, and is being given to unborn babies and children without any warning to parents of possible risks.

If you're still talking "quackery" and "anti-science", you haven't done due diligence.

Autism-spectrum disorders share dozens of common symptoms with mercury poisoning. The H1N1 vaccine contains mercury. No safety testing whatsoever has been done by the vaccine producers on children and pregnant women . The CDC has mandated the vaccination for children and urges vaccination for pregnant women and asserts the vaccine is safe - in the absence of any scientific verification at all.

There are many sources of information and much for you to read if you are interested in being fully informed on the controversy and better able to address the public concerns.

A couple of resources to get you started are:

The National Vaccine Safety Center
www.nvic.org

Think Twice
www.thinktwice.com
This website contains a very thorough review of the issues, concerns, and scientific evidence of the link between vaccines and neuro-degenerative disease- including autism.

Excellent post by We The People.

Kevin Leitch's name calling does not constitute science . Quite the contrary.

Not only do they waste their own time striving to misinform the public, but in doing so they actually hurt the cause and focus of caring for autistic kids . The people who keep up this anti- science nonsense should be deeply ashamed.
