Arrests Made in Disturbing Gang Rape of California Teen
A total of five people are now under arrest for the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl outside of her Northern California high school during a homecoming dance.
Details of the attack are horrifying. Police believe as many as seven young men took turns raping the semi-conscious girl over a two-hour period. As many as a dozen others saw the attack outside Richmond High School and did nothing. The San Jose Mercury News reports some of these individuals joined in, laughed, and even took pictures of the brutal assault.
"She was raped, beaten, robbed and dehumanized by several suspects who were obviously OK enough with it to behave that way in each other's presence," said Lt. Mark Gagan, a patrol supervisor in the city's Northern Policing District. "What makes it even more disturbing is the presence of others. People came by, saw what was happening, and failed to report it."
Police were finally notified when word of the attack spread to a party in a nearby house. One party-goer was appalled by what turned out to be more than just a rumor, and thankfully, finally, this person was the one only one who did the right thing, and called police.
According to police, the girl left the dance alone at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. She was walking to a spot where her father was supposed to pick her up. On her way, a schoolmate asked her to join a group of young men who were drinking in a dark, secluded courtyard. The assault began after the girl drank a large amount of alcohol and fell over.
Police are continuing their investigation and hope to make more arrests. The girl is being treated at a local hospital.

You have taken a subject about the tragedy of this abuse against a 15 year old girl and tried to turn it into your own personal soapbox speech on the ills of hip hop music. I will not stand for this ignorance. Are you seriously trying to tell me the ivy league boys, trust fund babies , and rich boy idiots who have been caught in the same criminal place these not so privileged boys are in. It does not matter the walk of life you come from. The values that are instilled in you from day 1 are whats important. You can have ignorant, bad, and irresponsible parenting from any household. The change in you bank account does not determine the quality of your morals and behavior. Now as far as this situation with this poor young girl, I pray for her recovery and I also pray God will put a bull's-eye on each and everyone of the boys who raped her and each and every person who stood there and watched and did nothing so they can be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law .
Let's put the blame where it is deserved. On the young males who committed this crime . Some blame might be placed on the parents and their upbringing but when it comes down to the evidence, I am pretty sure that their moms and dads were not there placing weapons against their sons' head telling him to commit this brutal crime. The boys knew right from wrong and made the wrong choice. Unfortunately for the girl who has suffered through this, it will take years to get over this. For her sake, I hope that she doesn't get pregnant or worse a disease she can't get rid of out of this. The emotional damage is enough. For the boys, they should be sentenced as adults. They chose to act in an adult manner - then sentence them as an adult. The school should provide adequate supervision. Here in Texas...I can't say that they boys would have made it to the jail. It is also a shame that everyone who witnessed the crime in progress chose not to report it but to take pictures and laugh. These individuals should be fined and/or convicted(misdemeanor). Maybe the Calif. law should be changed to reflect any age of the victim. The good news is, Karma. Yes, Karma. Either the young men will receive similar treatment in jail(should they be prosecuted)or a similar act will happen to someone they love like a sister, girlfriend , aunt or mother .What goes around will come back around. As for the young girl who has suffered in this, I truly hope and pray that she will overcome this.
...but this time I'm speechless...and heartbroken.
for these young men who raped a girl at a school dance on school property. Where were the adult teacher chaparones? The school is totally to blame for this for not providing adequent supervision and protection. No group should have even been within one mile of this dance without someone running them off. I dont know, what else must happen before adults stop taking their kids to sex hell aka public school.
I do.
And yes, I will blame the parents of these males (they are not "men" in my opinion) for not raising them better; but parenting is only part of the problem (many of the parents weren't well parented either).
Utimately, the perpetrators are responsible for their own actions. However, try driving around the "bad" parts of Oakland, Richmond,
Hayward, etc (CA Bay Area) and you'll see the results of the generational cycle of despair. We've got children having children (a by-product of poor parenting, sub-standard general education & sex education , poverty , lack of resources, etc). Then there's the whole Thug culture glorifying: drugs , crime , weapons, extreme misogyny, etc.
We've begotten a whole generation of souless creatures that prey on one another without conscience or empathy. It didn't happen in a vacume. The reasons/causes are many. It will take a truly concerted effort by society as a whole to turn it around (if it even can be at this in time and history).
You don't have to join the armed forces or go overseas to witness war zones. Every state, city and town has them now. It's great to be alive! (sarcasm)
Sorry, there shouldn't be a space between Richmond & Hayward,
sentence should read: (if it even can be in this POINT in time and history)
Let me remind you that the majority of these kind of crimes are not happening in homes but on or near school campuses while children are either on campus, just leaving campus or on their way to campus...even a teacher should be able to connect the dots on this mathmetical problem.
I agree with both of you. The school should have been more diligent with student safety. There is a cycle of poverty , poor parenting or lack of parents, drugs ....the list goes on. But sexually based crimes are in a category of their own. I worked with many inner city youth for years and only a handful were charged with these types of crimes. This is just my opinion mind you, but it has to be something more to than the above names things. Basic human decency and respect is non-existent for the people who commit these crimes. As a parent myself, I feel responsible for my children 's actions but ultimately know that I cannot control their behavior once they leave my watchful eye. I am interested in knowing where these kids come from (home life) and how their parents respond. I feel that I have a jumbled mess of feelings towards this crime that occurred that is difficult to express, so forgive me if I ran in circles. But, where do we begin?
If this girl was my child I would be furious with the fact this went on for 2 hrs and no adults were around to ck what was going on..why pay teachers? Why pay cops for security? why have chaperones???? that is the crime here as much as what was done...2 whole hrs and no one cked out this part of the school ??????? there would have to have been noise and no one cked....I think the adults at this event should be held accountable as much as you people say about the parents i agree the parents should raise their children better but teachers and cops seem to be absolutely useless....
Sure, I blame the parents and the teachers and the security guards. But most of all, I blame the pieces of filth who did this terrible thing, and the other pieces of filth who stood and watched and jeered at this poor girl for 2-1/2 hours. How could human beings stand around and WATCH a poor child be brutalized in this manner and cheer on the filthy monsters who were doing it? How could they?
