| by DeepDiveAdmin

Apple today announced the release of its next generation iPhone, according to an article from InformationWeek. The announcement was made at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company's VP of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller spelled out the device's new features.

The Apple iPhone 3GS will be available June 19 and will reportedly have a faster processor than previous models, as well as improved data connections, voice control, digital compass and a digital camera that can record and edit videos.

"The 'S' stands for speed," Schiller said at the conference. "It's the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet."

Although Apple did not go into specifics about new hardware, much was revealed about the types of features that users can enjoy. For instance, the new device will have up to twice the average speed and performance of the iPhone 3G, as well as hardware support to make applications run more smoothly.

The camera function has also been greatly improved. The new iPhone will contain a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and white balancing. Perhaps most impressive of all, however, is the device's video function. According to InformationWeek:

The iPhone 3GS will also have the ability to record and edit videos on the handset. It can record videos at 30-frames per second, and users will be able to share these videos through MMS messages, Apple's MobileMe online storage site, e-mail, or with a native YouTube uploader. Third-party developers will also get access to the new camera functions to create programs for the App Store.

The iPhone 3GS hits stores on June 19th, and will retail for $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version with new contract. Additionally, Apple is lowering the price of its 8GB iPhone 3G. It will be made available for $99 with new contract.
