Anti-Christmas Campaigns Only Benefit Fellow Atheists

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the latest Grinch campaigns:

This is a lonely time of year for those who believe in nothing. Most, however, manage to get by without lashing out at believers. But not the Freedom from Religion Foundation. Last year, this group took its campaign to Olympia, Washington, and this year the Wisconsin-based religion haters are taking their show on the road to Springfield, Illinois. Here is what their sign says:

There are no gods,
no devils, no angels,
no heaven or hell.
There is only our natural world.
Religion is but
myth and superstition
that hardens hearts
and enslaves minds.

By contrast, the American Humanist Association’s campaign is not anti-religion; it is simply pro-atheism. Nonetheless, its timing is clearly designed to compete with the Christmas message. It says, “No God…No Problem!” This sign will appear in several cities, including Washington, D.C.

It is not clear how many believers, if any, will be persuaded to change their minds and start believing in nothing. It seems more likely that these anti-Christmas campaigns are directed at fellow atheists: they function as a collective psychological massage, a kind of Dr. Feelgood exercise.

It would behoove them to follow my advice and stop at the nearest saloon for a couple of pints—it costs a lot less and promises to be the best feel-good exercise imaginable. However, there is one hitch: it won’t offend anyone.

Why try to ruin Christmas for so many? American is a Christian country and freedom of speech or not – it's an outrage to blatantly try to ruin the holiday spirit for millions of people. These terrible people are proselytizing – isn't that what they're against? Look at this! http://tictacdo.com/ttd/Become-an-Atheist - step by step instructions on how to reject Jesus. What a crying shame... targeting our youth directly.

Let us see if we can follow the bouncing ball and comment the dots of atheist propaganda:

1) Atheist activists such as Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, etc. condemn the overwhelming majority of parents who have ever lives as “child abusers,” “brainwashers,” etc. for teaching their children their religion . They do this while admitting that they want society to step in and that this will lead to children choosing no religion at all—their goal is to interrupt families in order to encourage atheism in children: evidence here

2) Next, they admit that they teach “ science ” and “ evolution ” as being synonymous with atheism, that they smuggle atheism in through the back door of “science” classes in public schools , that they write children’s “fiction” which is really an atheism catechism in disguise, etc.: evidence here and here

3) Next, they seek the support of fellow atheists and the UN in condemning religious parents and pretend to be concerned for free thought and free choice: evidence here

4) Next, we find that some atheist parents and some atheist organizations are not the least bit shy to admit that they do the very same things that other atheists condemn in religious parents, that they want to raise their children to be atheists—sometimes under the very thin disguise of teaching them critical thinking; yet, the evidence is clear, they want to raise atheists: evidence here

5) Lastly, at least thus far, atheists worldwide waste precious money not to help the needy during a time of recession but in order to purchase belligerent bus ads and billboards as they refuse to follow the evidence where it leads and condemn the celebrity atheists for their hypocrisy: evidence here

7) So, how about this for an add : please don’t call us “child abusers,” “brainwashers,” etc. leave us alone and let us choose how to raise our children: evidence here

Moreover, for much more evidence of atheist who seek to dictate child rearing to us all see here

Perhaps the Catholic League should worry more about its priests molesting children instead of getting their panties in a wad over benign billboards or simple signs which state the truth. Folks taking the author's advice may need more than a few pints to make his bigoted nuttery in any way credible or palatable.

The ads are mere propaganda that answers to an argument that no one has made. The claim is not that atheists lack of morals but lack of moral premise, lack of ethos.
It is also a reprinting of their ads from last year: http://atheismisdead.blogspot.com/2008/11/another-atheist-charity-huge-success.html

Yet again, during a time of the year when people are generally more inclined towards charity—peace on earth and good will towards non-gender specific personages—atheists are busily collecting hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars during a time of recession not in order to help anyone in real material need but in order to purchase bill boards and bus ads whereby they seek to demonstrate, to themselves, just how clever they are—need any more be said?

Religion, or lack thereof, does seem to keep the bucks rolling in, huh?

My father used to talk about how after his mother died he had to get her estate and financial affairs in order (she was a widow). In going through her bank statements, he found that at a time when the family barely had enough to eat, she had been sending hundreds of dollars to some TV preacher.

If robbing from widows, and taking food off the table of children , is your idea of "charity", it seems to me it is your own moral values that are open to question.

Under the circumstances, it really isn't hard to understand why moral, ethical, and right thinking people might be inclined to invest in an antipropaganda campaign to rid the world of these kinds of parasites.

There is no shred of evidence for any god , devil, demon, angels, heaven or hell. So this is a true statement. Instead of complaining, you should be doing research to come with verifiable and falsifiable evidence that gods exist.

By the way, you don't need to look hard to see that Thanksgiving is the start of the year-end shopping season where people are encouraged to spend money they don't have on things they don't need or to buy gifts they cannot afford for people they don't really like. Christmas is just the official end to this silly shopping season.

It is the modern-day version of the winter solstice that humans have celebrated long before we invented gods in our own image.

These guys write some pretty strange stuff but this one is even stranger than most. As phrased, the author appears to be claiming beer is even better than god , which seems to be a somewhat different approach to religion than what is typically offered by shamans of various cults.

Are we witnessing a new California style splinter cult? Will babies be baptized in Bud? Will the CEO of Coors be declaired a patron saint? Will men in dresses and funny hats stagger to the pulpit to tell of their visions under the influence of too many brewskies?

Methinks they should ease off on the blood of christ if they want to make themselves less of a laughing stock than they already are.

What a bunch of goofs!!!

The Encyclopedia Americana says: "Most of the customs now associated with Christmas were not originally Christmas customs but rather were pre-Christian and non-Christian customs taken up by the Christian church . Further, Christmas, or the Nativity, was not celebrated by early Christians . One encyclopedia says about this: "The celebration was not observed in the first centuries of the Christian church, since the Christian usage in general was to celebrate the death of remarkable persons rather than their birth." The Bible links the celebration of birthdays with pagans, not with God's true worshipers.—Matthew 14:6-10. So the thought that Christmas is Christian is what should offened Christians not what non believers say about the pagen holiday.

You know they tried to take Halloween as well. At least through the Lutheran denomination of Christians .

They are okay with the customs of pagan religions as long as the worship goes away from "fake gods" and towards the "real gods." It hardly matters that there is very weak evidence to show that Jesus was even a real person, much less a crazy inbred space- god .
