MLB News: Angels Pull Their Offer for Beltre

| by Off The Record

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (dumbest name in sports ever. And that’s saying something when you have a team called the Mighty Ducks playing up the street) have pulled their latest offer for free agent Adrian Beltre.

A source tells the Los Angeles Times that “the door is still open” on possibly negotiating a deal with Beltre, but that the supposed five-year, $70 million deal has been rescinded.

Beltre is believed to be wanting a six-year contract, but that would make him 38-years old in the last year of that contract.

As it is, we don’t know that we’d be offering that much money to a guy who hit over .300 for the first time since 2004. And believe us, the other years he wasn’t even sniffing that mark. And in 2009, he hit just eight home runs in 111 games. And his 102 RBI’s last year was the first time he’s cracked 100 RBI’s since 2004.

Buyer beware. Beltre should just take that offer and run with it.
