According to Ayurveda, each season has specific qualities, energetic effects upon the body, that affect our energy, strength, digestive fire, and stamina.  The Summer season increases the hot, sharp, penetrating, spreading qualities and depending upon where you live the dry qualities as well.  To maintain balance and keep these qualities from aggravating your body and mind employ cool, soft, stable, and dull properties.  Though Summertime is one of our favorite times of year it does can increase sensitivity to heat and light via the skin and and mind.  In order to keep harmony and stay cool:

- choose the bitter, astringent and sweet tastes
- favor lunar based yoga practices or choose to add more twisting and forward bending asanas in vinyasa based classes
