Singer Adam Lambert is the talk of the Internet Monday, following a racy performance that closed out last night's American Music Awards show. While singing his new single "For Your Entertainment," the openly gay Lambert had a male dancer perform simulated oral sex on him, he appeared to fondle a female dancer, and later planted an open-mouth kiss on a male piano player.
Watch the performance here:
The show aired live on the East Coast but on tape delay on the West Coast. The only thing ABC edited was the simulated oral sex. It showed it briefly, then?went to a cutaway of the audience. It left the kiss and other gyrations intact.
Before the show aired on the West Coast, the former "American Idol" runner-up decried any potential editing. "If it's edited, that's discrimination," Lambert said. "I will be a little disappointed because there is a little bit of discrimination going in this country. There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem."
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Indeed, there was no editing when Madonna kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during an MTV awards show. Although the standards between a broadcast network like ABC and a cable outfit like MTV are bound to be different.
Afterwards, Lambert defended his performance. "You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person. I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."
He also said the kiss was not planned, that it was a spontaneous moment. The man he kissed, by the way, is straight.
