Actress Salma Hayek has a confession to make -- she was once an illegal immigrant in the United States.

The 44-year-old Mexican stunner moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to study acting. But she now admits to Spain's V magazine that for a short time, she was illegal. 

"I was an illegal immigrant in the United States. It was for a small period of time, but I still did it."

Hayek didn't define "small period of time," nor did she go into detail about any problems she might have had while her status was illegal. 

Hayek is now a naturalized U.S. citizen, and is an outspoken advocate for the rights of undocumented workers, as well as for women's rights.
