Manager in 'Major League,' Actor James Gammon Dead At 70

Veteran actor James Gammon died Friday at the age of 70 after suffering from cancer. The actor had his most high-profile role in “Major League”, where he played baseball manager Lou Brown.  Gammon also had roles in “Cold Mountain,” “Urban Cowboy” and “Silverado.”

Gammon’s television roles included “Gunsmoke”, “The Waltons” and “Grey’s Anatomy."

“He did a lot of movies and TV, but I think his great presence and power was on the stage,” Paul Koslo, an actor and director who worked with Gammon at the MET. Koslo added, “He always had something unexpected, riveting and real.”

Gammon is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy, and his two daughters; Allison Mann of Costa Mesa and Amy Gammon of West Hollywood; two grandchildren; and a brother and sister.
