According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the New York Giants will play the Washington Redskins on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks to start the NFL season.
The game will be played in Landover, Md. -- as per the source who provided Vacchiano with the details regarding the Giants schedule -- so that the victims of the 9/11 attacks can be honored in both New York and D.C.
While early speculation noted that the league would pit the New York Jets against the Giants in honor of the event, as we reportedly earlier on Opposing Views, the Jets will actually play the Dallas Cowboys to start the year.
Other reported games and events for the Giants throughout the year include hosting the St. Louis Rams in Week Two, playing the Dallas Cowboys twice in the last four weeks of the season, a bye during Week Seven and squaring off against the Green Bay Packers on December 4th.
