2010 NBA Summer League Preview: Los Angeles Lakers

| by Alex Groberman

The Los Angeles Lakers will begin their 5-game NBA Summer League schedule on Friday, July 9 against the Detroit Pistons.

Headlining the Lakers' roster are their second round picks, Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter.

Ebanks was selected by the Lakers with the 43rd overall pick. The 6-9 power forward out of West Virginia averaged 11.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in two seasons with the Mountaineers.

Caracter was selected with the 58th overall pick and averaged 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds in his last season of college basketball. He began his collegiate career at Louisville before transferring out to the University of Texas at El Paso. He was named Second Team All-Conference USA last season, and ranked second in the conference and 16th in the country in field goal percentage

The Lakers roster finds several familiar names.

Gerald Green, the ultra-athletic cautionary tale for straight-out-of-high school players who was selected by the Celtics in 2005, is trying to earn his way back into the league. After his stint with the Celtics, Green bounced around to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks in a four-year span. Eventually, after a number of unsuccessful attempts to make an NBA roster, he went to Russia.

Former Maryland standout D.J. Strawberry will also represent the purple and gold this summer. A second-round pick by the Suns in 2007, Strawberry struggled to get minutes in the Suns rotation before getting sent to the D-League.
