125 Whales Found Dead in New Zealand; Experts Unsure of Cause

Some 125 pilot whales died in New Zealand
after stranding on the beach over the weekend _ but vacationers and
conservation workers Sunday managed to coax 43 others back out to sea. The Associated Press reports:

According to Wiki, pilot whales weigh around 3 tons. 125 dead whales comes to 750,000 pounds.
Isn't there some practical way to salvage or recycle some of that? It seems incredible they would just be burried to rot.
