Michael L. Brea, the bit-part Ugly Betty actor charged with killing his mother with a sword last week, has spoken out about the brutal slaying.
Brea, who once appeared on TV series Ugly Betty, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of killing his mother, Yanick Brea.
Police responded to neighbours’ complaints of shouting coming from the New York apartment that he shared with his mother on Monday. They found Yanick slumped in the bathroom with multiple stab wounds and lacerations to her face, reports TMZ.
It was initially reported that Brea was suspected of using a samurai sword to attack his mother, but police sources say the weapon was another type of blade that measured around 3-feet in length.

When police entered the apartment, Brea, 31, was found sitting in a chair, holding a bible and the sword. He had to be tasered in order to subdue him, according to police.
‘I killed the demon inside her…’
According to Brea, he hacked his mother to death with a sword because he thought her soul had been taken over by a demon.
“I didn’t kill her. I killed the demon inside her,” Brea told the New York Daily News in a chilling interview from the prison ward at Bellevue Hospital. “It was the work of God.”

Brea described how God came to him in his sleep last Sunday and told him it was to be his last day on Earth.
“I was sleeping in my bedroom. God came above my bed and reached his arm to me,” he said. “I said, ‘God, is my time on earth over?’ I heard a voice say, ‘Yes Michael, today is your last day.’”
He says he received another sign on Monday when a man tried to put a curse on him near a Masonic temple in Harlem.
“[He] kept trying to put something in my hand but wouldn’t show it to me. I kept opening my hand. It was a Freemason pin. I wouldn’t touch it,” he said.
While riding the subway train to Brooklyn, Brea said strangers began speaking to him about his mother.
“I felt like Neo from ‘The Matrix.’ I began hearing voices and feeling powerful,” said Brea. “They were asking about the difference between mom and mother. It was a sign.”
When he arrived at the Prospect Heights apartment he shared with his mother, he hugged her, explaining, “I knew I would never see my mother again. I gave her lots of love.”
Brea then entered his bedroom and lit candles before placing a dagger and a 3-foot ceremonial Freemason sword by his side. He says his mother then began to speak with “the voice of the demon,” and he confronted her with the sword, asking her if she believed in God.
Brea then attacked her with a sword, believing a demon had taken hold of her soul.
He adds: “I was slashing my mom and I heard the police knocking on the door yelling, ‘Michael, open up, Michael, open up,’ but I knew they wouldn’t open the door and stop me because the spirits were protecting me … I just kept cutting her. No one could stop me. I was doing the work of God.”
Brea has been charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
