Charles Barkley Stands Up for LGBT Equality

| by GLAAD

Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was part of a pre-game tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, before TNT’s coverage of the NBA.

Barkley, who has long been a public supporter of LGBT equality (including marriage) took the opportunity to speak about discrimination against gay and lesbian people.

Barkley: “People  try to make it about black and white. He talked about equality for every man, every woman. We have a thing going on now — people discriminating against homosexuality in this country. I love the (homosexual) people. God bless the gay people. They are great people. We have discrimination against Hispanics in this country right now. We need to answer to that.”
