Should the U.S. Immediately Begin Withdrawal from Iraq?

The reasons for invading Iraq in 2003 have been debated and analyzed in full. The Iraqis Now Face a Better Future

Heritage Foundation

General Patraeus strategy has resulted in an 80 percent drop in violence preventing a civil war, the split-up of the country, and a regional humanitarian, political, and security crisis on a vast scale. All those horrible things might well have happened if the U.S. military had just cut and run. There is no military solution, but the military has now created the opportunity for a political solution. Because we stayed, we can now see clearly the opportunity for U.S. troops to leave, but leaving with the Iraqis facing a better future rather than facing a cycle of endless violence.
