Should Boys be Circumcised?

Should Boys be Circumcised?

Parents face so many difficult decisions when it comes to having a child: decisions about nursing, sleep patterns, discipline, teaching methods and, in the case of boys, whether or not to circumcise. In addition to being the most common surgery for males in the U.S., circumcision has been practiced in various cultures for centuries. Yet when it comes to the health and best interest of your newborn, is circumcision the way to go?

Sexual Function and Pleasure Lost Due to Circumcision

National Organization of Circumcision Information

There is a full and complete discussion of the loss of sexual function and sexual pleasure to circumcision on the Knol website. We refer the reader to that article, “The Ridged Band of the Human Prepuce,” see evidence below.

With regard to women, an Australian research paper, presented at the 6th International Symposium on Circumcision, Genital Integrity and Human Rights, University of Sydney in 2000, provides strong evidence that women prefer their male partner to be intact.

A circumcised male partner may contribute to “female sexual arousal disorder.”

More of the same -    NOCIRC vs the scientific evidence. In the past all there was were anecdotes, which was right down NOCIRC’s alley. But for the past decade even SEX has been subjected to scientific studies, and the answers do not look good for NOCIRC. Check out these research studies if you want the facts. Here are some:

There it is. The foreskin turns out not to be a factor is sex – if anything the circumcised penis is preferred because of cleanliness – no surprise there. The most fascinating and titillating study in my mind is the last one I cited - by Waldinger and all. These researchers measured what they call the Intravaginal Ejaculation Latency Time (IELT). That means standing there with a stop watch and measuring the time it takes to ejaculate after the penis is inserted into the vagina. It turns out that it takes about 6 minutes whether you are circumcised or uncircumcised. Although the circumcised men lasted a few seconds longer this difference wasn’t statistically significant. But longer sex is better sex and you could argue that every second counts. So let’s hear it for the non-intact state.
