Who Has the Right Plan for America's Economy?

Massive bailouts, foreclosed homes, jaw-dropping gas prices, chaos on Wall Street. These are just a few signs of the U.S.'s struggling economy. As America enters the next chapter of its history, what impact will an Obama administration have on our economic future?

Our economy faces serious challenges. John McCain has proposed a plan rooted in his belief that the role of government is to unleash the creativity, ingenuity and hard work of the American people, and make it easier to create jobs. Barack Obama puts his faith in Washington to solve our economic problems. The contrast couldn't be more clear.

There are a lot of major issues the candidates are debating in this election, like different philosophies towards providing healthcare, corporate tax cuts, and middle-class tax cuts. These are issues that will be resolved by the election and a major focus of legislation in 2009.

But right now the economy has lost 438,000 jobs -- six consecutive months of job loss. We can't afford to wait until 2009 and another six months of job loss. That is why instead of debating about the economy, Barack Obama has invited Senator McCain to join him in supporting a specific proposal for a $50 billion program to jump-start the economy, create jobs, and relieve the burden on families.

The urgency of this problem makes the McCain campaign's reponse disappointing. What does it mean? What is McCain's plan? Are they opposed to short-run measures the help get the economy going again while we move forward on longer-run solutions to our most pressing challenges like the rising cost of healthcare and energy?
