Although there is some truth to your statement, I believe the media too often fail to "connect the dots" between religion and acts of violence committed by Muslims.  Often times, the mainstream media bury or omit information about a terrorist's religion, even when the terrorist himself has made it quite clear that his faith compelled him to act. Andrew McCarthy touches on some of the media's inattention to the violence--Islam link in this 2006 NRO article (see evidence):
