Is Homosexuality a Sin?

Is Homosexuality a Sin?

There has been no shortage of controversy as gay people assume increased roles as parents and married couples in our society, but almost nowhere has this conflict been more intense than in the church. Many religious leaders have condemned homosexuality, calling it a sin or even an abomination, but for millions of gay people around the world, there is nothing inherently sinful about their sexual preferences.

Not Consciously Prohibiting Same Sex Relationships - Dr. Schmidt

Gay Christian 101

If the Adam and Eve, opposite sex marriage model is the ONLY marriage model God will bless - that IS the essence of your argument and the Complementarian position - then why stop with just that part of the story?

1. Adam and Eve also lived in a garden therefore all married couples should live in a garden.

2. Adam and Eve did not get married in a church building so why do so many non-gay Christians get married in church buildings?

3. Adam and Eve did not have a ceremony officiated by a denominationally affiliated pastor so why do so many non-gay Christians have a pastor marry them?

4. Adam and Eve did not exchange wedding rings so why do so many Christians exchange wedding rings?

5. Adam and Eve were opposite sex partners so every same sex marriage partnership must be wrong, right?

Everything on that list MUST be wrong because none of them is mentioned in the Genesis 2 account.

Of course, such reasoning is ridiculous.

It assaults our common sense to believe that since God didn't mention same sex marriage in Genesis 2, same sex marriage is wrong.

Yet the same folks who make that argument also accept getting married in a church building (no one in the Bible got married in a church building).

They also accept a denominationally affiliated pastor performing the wedding ceremony plus many other things NOT mentioned in the Genesis 2 account.

The reasoning which attempts to support the Exodus position is simply untenable.

Your quotation from Tom Schmidt is spot on, however.

"The Genesis 2 account does NOT provide explicit commands about sexuality and the author of Genesis 2 was NOT consciously prohibiting same sex relations when he wrote the Genesis account."

Exodus and Dr. Gagnon and most anti-gay Christians are simply reading their opinion into the Bible because the Bible does not say what you wish it said.

I appreciate your quotation from Tom Schmidt, which admits that salient truth.
