While there may be many compelling reasons for anyone to eat only organic produce, the reality is that many pregnant women do not have access to or resources for organic produce. In many neighborhoods, obtaining any type of produce is difficult, especially inner city neighborhoods, where fresh food is scarce and dangers far greater than eating conventional produce are rampant. Pregnant women should be encouraged to eat any fresh fruits and vegetables that may be available to them. If pesticides are a worry, pregnant women should be instructed to remove the peel of the fruit or vegetable, which would eliminiate the majority of the offending substance.

If a pregnant women is interested in switching to organic produce, a reliable source of organic produce must be identified. Additionally, a pregnant women can prioritze her produce choices so that she chooses organic versions of the produce that tends to have high levels of pesticides. A shopping guide such as the "Top ten fruits and vegetables to buy organic" can help.
