NEWS: New Lamp Standard Will Save Consumers $4 Billion Annually
They missed something
The part left out of the article is that even the new "GSFL" bulbs still contain Mercury. The thing they never mention in any article praising these new lamps is that once the bulb dies, you can't legally throw it in the trash, it instead has to be taken to a hazardous waste disposal firm where they will charge you around 5 dollars to get rid of it. Also, read the packaging, if one of these bulbs breaks, you're supposed open the windows and evacuate the area for an hour. Also, if it breaks on a carpet, the ENTIRE carpet in that room is supposed to be removed and taken to a hazardous waste site. Does the energy saved by these new lamps really make the health risks to your family worth it?
