    The popular vote

The popular vote will always be to endorse existing prejudice. That's the reason that civil rights issues cannot be reasonably decided by a popular vote. Had segregation been decided by a popular vote, we would still have separate restrooms and drinking fountains for blacks and whites.

      minority protections

A society cannot be truly free if it allows the majority to deny rights to the minority.
