Why Aren't You A Vegan?

Question by khaetlyn

I'm not a PETA or HSUS supporter, I won't throw paint on you, and I won't yell or scream. I'm just a non-violent, curious abolitionist vegan. Why aren't you a vegan? Is it ideological opposition? Or just simply personal preference? What is keeping you from being a vegan?

  • I am omnivorous.

I love all food, including meat. In terms of cooking for myself, I stick to fish because I believe fish to be extremely unintelligent and thus I have absolutely no ethical qualms about eating them....

Some of it is personal preference, some of it is nutritional, but the main reason is that I have severe sensory difficulties. As a child it wasn't merely a matter of exposing me to different...

  • Odd question.

It's a bit like asking me why I'm not a Presbyterian or a Free Mason. Nobody has articulated a particularly persuasive reason as to why I should become one, and, absent a persuasive argument on the...

I enjoy Meat, Poultry and Meat

Perhaps it's because I grew up eating these things, but I enjoy the flavor, consistency(ies) and experience of foods containing these ingredients.

  • It seems a bit too complicated a way to get sufficient nutrition. (I believe too complicated to be unnatural)

I would , however, support changing agricultural practices to increase the diversity of foods available to the general public and therefore increase nutritional diversity in the western diet.

  • for nutritional purposes

I eat meat in relatively small quantities because it both tastes good and is a good source of protein as well as other nutrients.

  • Personal preference

I don't want to sound callous or anything, but I don't think that animals have the same rights that humans have, and I think that humans have a right to eat other animals. So, I guess that's why I...
