Riots in Iran continued for a third day as protesters violently clashed with police following the announcement that current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had won a second term. Videos are beginning to emerge from the besieged Iranian capital of Tehran, showing scenes of a country in chaos.

In this video from the BBC, paramilitary soldiers loyal to Ahmadinejad can be seen firing on the assembled crowd with automatic weapons. At least one protester died in the shooting:

And in this video, protesters turn and attack a battalion of motorcycle riot police.

      You don't understand

It's the Govt we shouldn't trust with Nuclear weapons that these courageous people are protesting against. If we intervene it should be to help topple the Theocratic Dictatorship Iran has. When religion becomes the power behind the government it must be stopped.

    Iranian vs US democracy?

I'm wondering if the Iranians are doing in 2009 what the Americans should have done in 2000. (noting that Ahmadinejad doesn't believe in global warming , Iraq's independence, alternate energies, etc. either)

      Such idiocy

They aren't rioting over such mundane things. They are rioting in protest over the hard line stance the existing Govt has toward the west and the ultra conservative Muslim laws forced on the public.

        such shortsightedness

Thank you. I'm collecting comments illustrating parochial viewpoints. Global Warming is mundane? Alternate energies are mundane. 6-2009. What planet do you live on?

The Iranian students don't care about the govt stance against the west --- all candidates essentially share it. They do care about the Muslim laws, but that isn't even on the table.
