Comedian Sarah Silverman appeared on
Bill Maher’s HBO show on October 9 attacking the Vatican. She began her monologue bemoaning the plight of world
hunger, and then found a solution: “What is the Vatican worth, like 500 billion dollars? This is great, sell the Vatican, take a big chunk of the
money, build a gorgeous condominium for you and all your friends to live in…and with the money left over, feed the whole f---ing world.”
Speaking of the
pope, Silverman continued, “You preach to live humbly, and I totally agree. So, now maybe it’s time for you to move out of your house that is a city. On an ego level alone, you will be the biggest hero in the history of ever. And by the way, any involvement in the Holocaust, bygones….”
Silverman closed by saying, “If you sell the Vatican, and you take that money, and you use it to feed every single human being on the planet, you will get crazy p---y. All the p---y.”
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responds as follows:
Silverman’s assault on Catholicism is just another example of HBO’s corporate irresponsibility. Time and again, if it’s not Bill Maher thrashing the Catholic Church, it’s one of his guests. There is obviously something pathological going on there: Silverman’s filthy diatribe would never be allowed if the chosen target were the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem and the state of Israel.
Here’s a reality check for Silverman: the Catholic Church operates more hospitals and feeds more of the poor than any private institution in the world. It also saved more Jews during the Holocaust than any other institution in the world.

Obscene?
Not only do they not have a sense of humor, they need a dictionary. They don't seem to know what the word obscene means.

Are you kidding?
Sarah Silverman is a moron, whore comic who was making a joke. There are some good points in there like "live humbly" aka practice what you preach.
The part about the involvement in the Holocaust was about the Pope being a Nazi not about the Vatican. (that joke went woosh right over your head)
Bill Maher is a open atheist and has made a safe haven for people to talk freely about their beliefs on his show.
If this hurt your feelers then send some nasty emails. It wont change the show.

Sanctimonious?
"if it’s not Bill Maher thrashing the Catholic Church, it’s one of his guests."
Would Bill Donohue consider the multi-decade priests and little boys saga appropriate "thrashing" or did he mean "trashing?"

Sarah silverman
I believe the top of my list of what is so wrong with the world,is poverty . I said exactly this last week bfore the show and was so glad sarah said this on the show, How could a so called god let poverty exist and make others so rich they are unable to see that their money could help the poor. No hey ask those on low budgets to give. how much money is spent on guarding the pope on his many travels. So you say the church gives but it is just a pittance, obviously not enough. Stop all poverty, and abuse, then come and say there is a higher being.
Without man made religion there would not be so many separations, hatred of say jews, muslims etc.Anyway I thought the Vatican harboured nazis during the war.
Coffee manufacturers sell it and line their purses and yet use slave labour.
If money is not religion then let religion give there money and help the world became an equal place for all.
