WASHINGTON --- Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins today praised the citizens of Maine for exercising their right to a "People's Veto" and affirming
marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
"Yesterday the voters of Maine exercised their right to a 'people's veto' and joined voters from 30 other states in affirming the profound importance of man-woman marriage.
"Over and over again, the American people have affirmed marriage at the ballot box and turned aside the demands of a movement that remains largely driven by
Hollywood, some extreme activists, and a few activist judges. Traditional marriage supporters ran an incredibly strong grassroots campaign and prevailed despite being outspent three to one.
"This is a repudiation of Governor Baldacci and the Democratic-dominated legislature who failed to protect the rights of families and
children by refusing to protect the institution of marriage. These elected leaders not only turned aside the views of their constituents but also the overwhelming social
science research which shows that man-woman marriage provides children with the best
environment for growth,
health and happiness.
"We applaud Maine's voters for holding their elected leaders accountable. We hope the message sent today by Maine's voters will be heard in Washington and state capitals around the nation. The institution of marriage should not be used to establish special rights for a select few at the expense of the natural family and future generations."

Intellectual Honesty
"This is a repudiation of Governor Baldacci and the Democratic-dominated legislature who failed to protect the rights of families and children by refusing to protect the institution of marriage ."
So ... giving rights to someone else hurts families and children. That's an interesting argument. I'm trying to figure out how letting someone else do something effects my rights as an individual (or the rights of other families).
"These elected leaders not only turned aside the views of their constituents but also the overwhelming social science research which shows that man-woman marriage provides children with the best environment for growth, health and happiness. "
Apparently the FRC isn't aware that every major medical establishment rejects that view entirely and that the evidence they speak of does not exist in any significant quantity. In fact, the overwhelming majority of research speaks in direct opposition. To quote the American Academy of Pediatrics, considered the chief authority on all areas of medically relevant, pediatric research:
"More than 25 years of research have documented that there is no relationship between parents' sexual orientation and any measure of a child's emotional, psychosocial, and behavioral adjustment. These data have demonstrated no risk to children as a result of growing up in a family with 1 or more gay parents. Conscientious and nurturing adults, whether they are men or women , heterosexual or homosexual, can be excellent parents. The rights, benefits , and protections of civil marriage can further strengthen these families"

At least be intellectually honest and say "we don't want gays marrying because we don't like gay people" and be done with it.

The FRC
The FRC continues to lie and lie and lie, in the face of all scientific evidence contrary to their lies.
And they continue to encourage people to discriminate against children by withholding important civil rights and protections which should be their due as citizens of this nation, simply because FRC doesn't like who these children's parents are.
Shameful words and behavior, FRC. Not at all Christ-like.
