WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gun violence prevention advocates are praising the New Jersey State Legislature and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine for passing an important bill to combat illegal gun trafficking by limiting handgun purchases to one per month per individual.
“New Jersey has taken a sensible step that will profoundly interfere with the ability of gun traffickers to operate in the state, while ensuring that
law-abiding citizens who wish to purchase a firearm can do so,” said Dennis Henigan, Vice President for Law and Policy of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “We congratulate the New Jersey Legislature for getting this done, and deeply appreciate Governor Corzine’s work in helping ensure passage.”
“We're thrilled to get this bill across the finish line, and thrilled that it will make New Jersey families safer, because it will make it harder for criminals to get
guns,” said Carole Stiller, President of the New Jersey chapters of the Million Mom March.
The legislation has been a long time priority for state advocacy group Ceasefire NJ. “Leave it to sensible Garden State legislators to hold the NRA at bay by promoting the
public safety,” said Ceasefire NJ Executive Director Bryan Miller. “New Jersey's Governor, legislative leadership and mayors have, once again, put safety of the state's citizens above the blandishments of the gun lobby and the profits of the gun industry. Our state's leaders deserve the citizenry's profound gratitude.”
Upon enactment of the legislation, New Jersey will join Virginia, Maryland, and California as the fourth state with the anti-trafficking measure in place.

Did I miss the punchline?
This was promising to be a pretty good joke, but I didn't get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
Since when do criminals buy their guns in gun stores? Once again, the Brady Campaign To Completely Disarm Law-Abiding American Citizens scores. This is going to stop the trafficking of illegal firearms in exactly the same way that the war on drugs has stopped the trafficking of illegal drugs.
This is akin to filling out that stupid form every time you buy a legal , over the counter drug to combat nasal congestion because it contains sudafed. And heaven forbid you should need another box and have to buy another one this week.
The one good thing that can come from this is that when the Brady Bunch sees that this measure in no way leads to a decrease in the number of guns on the streets of New Jersey or reduction in gun-related crime , they will without a doubt stop trying to get similar laws passed elsewhere. Oh wait, there's already more than ample evidence that shows that all over. Dang. I guess there's no hope left for these people after all.
Oh well New Jersey. Next time you get mugged at gunpoint and have no way to defend yourself, make sure you call your representative and thank them for making you so much safer by ebbing the flow of guns into New Jersey; since they couldn't possibly be...oh, I don't know, driven in on the same trucks that are pouring drugs on to the streets.

Wake up America
Criminals don't care about gun laws . This is nothing more than a politician showing off for his main supporter, the Brady Bunch. This law will do nothing to stop illegal gun activity, it will just limit legal gun owners from excersing thier right to choose.
I think we should vote to limit politicians from creating new law bills to one a year. Perhaps then they would be more productive with thier time. Enforce current laws and quit adding more laws that injure innocent citizens and take away thier rights.
