STATEN ISLAND, NY -- A New Zealand study that says abortion puts women at increased risk of anxiety and depression is but the latest in a long line of scientific reports that reach the same conclusion said leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign today.
"Science has for years been supporting what we already know from the public testimonies and the private devastation of post-abortive women," said Janet Morana, co-founder of SNMAC, the world's largest network of individuals harmed by abortion. "This study is one more rock on a mountain of evidence that when a woman terminates a life she has been nurturing, she cannot anesthetize her soul."
"The New Zealand study, published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, in its own words calls into question whether abortions can be justified for mental health reasons"” added Georgette Forney, another co-founder of SNMAC. "It's ironic that this study comes out as leaders in Congress try to expand access to abortion in the name of health care. In effect, pro-abortion politicians are seeking to cover a procedure that will only lead to more costly mental health care services down the road."
Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 3,423 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 489 gatherings in 48 states and eight countries where more than 103,000 spectators have heard the truth about abortion's negative aftereffects. More than 7,200 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign's goals.

RE: "3,423 women and men have shared their testimonies"
This is indeed remarkable new " science ". I've never met a man who has had an abortion . Stories of their experiences must be truly incredible.
Are they gay men? Did they fail to use the church approved misionary position? Was divine intervention involved?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

Abortion 'causes' depression?
So does poverty , isolation, miscarraige, BIRTH (PPD), obesity , imagined obesity, deep limbic malfunction, malnutrition, divorce, war fighting, familial loss, lack of sex , ugliness, addiction, job loss, amputation... What's your point?
Correlation does not equal causation. Just because there is a higher rate of depression of women who have terminated a pregnancy does not mean that abortion causes depression. Factors that lead to depression are usually apart of the reasons for getting a termination like an inability to afford adding a child to your family. These women are likely to be depressed over their finances before even inquiring about an abortion.
Women who keep their preganancies are going to be happier on average because they don't have the associated reasons for termination, like poverty, adholescence, etc. Terminating a pregnancy is not a "happy" thing to go through, so it would be obvious that women that don't have that stressor would be statistically less depressed.
An ex of mine had an abortion, her sadness was solely due to the fact that keeping it would have bankrupted her. She had to borrow the $300 to get a 6th week abortion.
A few months of coping and she was fine.
"You may get depressed about it" is (1) not an argument against abortion services and (2) is obvious to most people. It's not like anyone WANTS an abortion, their current position in life is why they choose abortion.
Sure, many women that an abortion don't get depressed about it... but that doesn't change the realities of why they get one and it doesn't imply that they enjoyed or wanted it.
