A bizarre story out of Paraguay, where a baby whom doctors declared dead wakes up just before his funeral.

The baby boy was born 16 weeks premature at a hospital in the capital city of Asuncion. Dr. Ernesto Weber head of pediatric care at the state-run hospital, said the baby weighed just 17.6 ounces. "Initially, the baby didn't move, he practically didn't have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus of 24 weeks dead," Weber told Reuters Television.

The grieving family was given a death certificate, as well as a cardboard box with the baby's name scribbled on the outside which served as a makeshift coffin.

The family took him home to prepare him for his funeral, when they got quite a shock. "I opened the box and took the baby out and he cried. I got scared and I said 'the baby's crying' ... and then he started moving his arms, his legs and I got scared, we got very scared," said one member of the family, Liliana Alvarenga.

They rushed him back to the hospital, where doctors put the now breathing and alive newborn into an incubator. He's currently in stable condition. An investigation is underway to find out how such a horrible mistake could have happened.

    Interesting

I'm of the opinion that " god " had nothing to do with it. There's quite a lot humans don't know about premature human fetuses, given that the only ethical experiences with them are non-experimental births which occur depending on the mother's conditions as well.

God has everything to do with this

First of all, God is all knowing. A bird does not fall from the sky without God knowing it. Second, everything that is good comes from God. God created this baby and obviously has a plan for his life.

Yes, there is a lot that humans do not know about premature babies , life, and death. Whether or not we know everything there is to know about the universe does not preclude God from the equation. God is not dependent on our knowledge of his existence; His actions are not limited by a lack of faith.

      Pray some more...

Perhaps you should pray for all the millions of children who die every year from preventable causes like traetable diseases and starvation. Really, do it, right now, respond to this posting and tell me. Then we'll see if any of these horrific, drawn out, terrible deaths are prevented by god , or whether he just lets them suffer, suffer some more and die.

I know which option my money would be on.

Maybe your god is something else

I obviously haven't met the parents, but I expect the death of this child brought nothing but despair to them along with the parents of the "9.7 million children under the age of five (who) die from largely preventable causes" every year ( http://www.unicef.org/why/why_preventable_causes.html ) - one every three seconds.

Maybe someone forgot to pray for them. Maybe one prayer could save all these lives, maybe your god is completely indifferent to the horrific suffering experienced by these children on their way to dying, maybe your god is just an imaginary friend because to be otherwise would mean that he is at least complicit, if not the cause, of suffering to an unimaginable degree as described above.

            Preventable.

God didn't let those children die, we did.

              Yes he did

God could have chosen to prevent them from dying. He didn't. Therefore he chose to let them die.

              How simple is that?

And if a significant proportion of those dead children are as a result of famine caused by lack of rain, or from disease (presumably both created by god ) how is that 'us' letting them die?

                How?

This kind of question usually comes from someone who doesn't believe in God and doesn't understand how God or free will works. The deaths you are talking about were preventable. That means us. What is it you expected God to do? How exactly was God suppose to prevent those deaths?

      Thanks god

A child, long anticipated by its parents who have all the hopes and dreams in the world for his future, a desire to share with him all their love as parents as they raise him.

And he dies soon after birth.

      Thanks god .
