Does My Vote Matter?

Does My Vote Matter?

According to International IDEA, the United States has almost the lowest voter turnout in the world, ranked a measly 140 out of 163. Perhaps Americans are apathetic, or maybe they’re just concerned their vote is meaningless in the face of America's massive political machine. Can my vote really change the course of politics, or am I just a grain of sand on the massive beach of democracy?

Why Should You Vote in the November 4 Election?

League of Women Voters

So, why should you vote in the November 4, 2008 Presidential Primary election? Not only will you be helping to elect the next President of the United States, you will be helping California decide 12 state propositions. Propositions are proposed laws that if they receive more than 50% yes votes will become laws and in some cases, amend the State Constitution. This November, there are propositions on gay marriage, parental notification of abortion for minors, victim’s rights, renewable energy, cruelty to farm animals. There are propositions proposing the sale of bonds to finance children’s hospitals, high- speed rail systems and veterans’ home loans.
