Why No Wall on the Canadian Border?

The United States does not have to build a wall along the land border with Canada. Why not? Governments in Canada, both federal and provincial, have developed close ties with U.S. counterparts, particularly in the area of law enforcement and national security. Integrated Border Enforcement Teams (IBETs) link U.S. and Canadian law enforcement officials in standing joint task forces. And after September 11, 2001 Ottawa responded to U.S. concerns about the Canadian immigration system with significant reforms enacted by new legislation. Canada also invested billions of dollars in upgrades to infrastructure and improved security capabilities.

With all this, the Bush administration can credibly argue that a wall is unnecessary. Problems with the Canadians can be worked out amicably.
