Our conscience is lighter, too.
A Gallup poll recently found:
"A quarter of Americans say animals deserve the same rights as humans, while almost all of the rest agree that animals should be given some protection from harm and exploitation."
But so long as intensive animal agriculture remains, in fact, any animal agriculture, some people will harm and exploit animals.
The ONLY way to prevent cruelty is to go vegan.
