The second amendment of the constitution guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. As the specter of gun violence continues in our workplaces, roads and schools, the question keeps arising: do guns keep you safe, or just increase the level of violence?

With over 280 million guns in civilian hands in our country and over 30,000 gun-related deaths each year, Americans should be concerned about the proliferation of guns in the United States.
 
Due to the easy availability of firearms, the United States is the most violent industrialized nation on earth. In fact, we own more than half of all guns owned worldwide. And, it is estimated that more than 34% of households have a gun -- in other words our nation is swimming in a sea of deadly firearms.  

More guns will not make our families, communities or country safer.
