Should Colleges Consider SAT/ACT Scores?

Trembling hands, flying graphite, nervous sweat. Anyone who's taken a standardized test recognizes those symptoms instantly. Millions of students take the SAT and ACT tests each year in hopes of earning admission to their dream college, but a growing movement insists these standardized tests are an unfair and inaccurate measure of academic worth. Should colleges continue to consider these tests when determining their future alumni?

The Tests Are Too Easy to Prep For

Mark Truman

Executive Director - Omniac Education

As a professional test prep tutor, I've seen hundreds of kids improve their scores. Some of them even jump from merely average scores to incredible top percentile scores without much more than a serious review of the material and lessons on the tricks the tests use. Any test that is supposed to stand as an indicator of college success should not allow students to improve their scores so quickly! The fact that we can help students get enormous improvements is an indicator that the exams are more like a games than a tests - timed events where you compete for points!
