From the September 11th attacks to the London and Madrid bombings, it should be clear that Islamic extremists have declared war on the Western world. The ideology that drives these extremists to kill is Islamic Totalitarianism, which demands the forceful imposition of Islamic law onto unwilling individuals. Islamic law is incompatible with the Western way of life, as it demands significant restrictions on women's rights, bans speech that is deemed offensive to Islam and mandates death sentences for apostates and homosexuals. All of these laws are routinely practiced in Iran . There are several groups who are subsumed under Islamic Totalitarianism, several of whom are sworn enemies (e.g., Sunni extremists and Shiite extremists). However, we must nevertheless recognize that any group in this category is violently opposed to the Western way of life, which is why the U.S. must fight a war against Islamic Totalitarianism, and not merely a subset of particular radical Islamic groups.
Proponents of Islamic Totalitarianism can take many forms. They can take the form of terrorists, who seek to intimidate governments into adopting Islamic Law. They can also take the form of a government who imposes Sharia law on an unwilling citizenry. The Islamic Republic of Iran is a beacon of Islamic Totalitarianism. Iran has an established history of supporting Islamic terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, President Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for Israel to be "wiped off of the map" and has enthusiastically declared that a "world without the United States " is both "feasible and possible." These declarations are typically met by crowds cheering "death to America !" Iran has also been supporting Shiite insurgents in Iraq and the state's capital Tehran contains numerous murals symbolically calling for the death of America . Even if there is no direct engagement between the armed forces of the two nations, The United States is already at war with the ideas that Iran embodies.
Any strike against Iran 's uranium enrichment facilities is a legitimate part of the ongoing war effort against Islamic Totalitarianism. If the Iranian government no longer wants to be an enemy of the United States , then Iran must renounce Islamic Totalitarianism, withdraw all support from Islamic terrorist groups, crackdown on the terrorist groups within its borders, adopt a strict separation between mosque and state and establish a government of laws that protect the individual rights of its citizenry. Until then, Iran has no right to any resources that could enhance its offensive capability, including uranium enrichment technology.
