Nuclear energy annually has provided 20 percent of U.S. electricity supplies since the early 1990s even with a marked increase in overall electricity demand. Government forecasts suggest our nation will need to increase electricity generating capacity by at least 25 percent by 2030, so really we need contributions from ALL sources of electricity in addition to robust energy conservation and efficiency programs. Still, nuclear energy’s ability to provide bulk (baseload) power around the clock is proven – as evidenced by the power plants’ record-high capacity factors.
